This is my entry for The Season's Contest being held by =Masterwks

Work in progress is done!!! It is a Flash presentation this time! [link]

For me the changing of the Seasons always seems a magical time … the first flowers in Spring; in Summer it is the first day I notice that is it 9PM and it is still light out ... Autumn is the first red-gold leaf but for Winter it is the first Snowfall.

Winter is not my most favourite Season but there is an exception ... that very first REAL snowfall … that is incredible!

I've tried to depict that time ... just when you know that it is going to snow ... the sky is clouding over and smoothing out, there is a sense of stillness and the air has a scent of snow ... the only thing you will sometimes hear are the crows calling to each other to warn of the coming weather.

This one has a poem to go with it!

Lady Winter's First Snow

As heavy lids and lashes part
White hair a blanket 'cross her heart

She's so far down, she lies so deep
Dark is her passage up from sleep

Black feathered wings; they gather round
Her leaden limbs to be unbound

She'll stretch; she'll gather cloud and crow
Embrass the essence of first snow

In gown stark white and blue and gray
She'll spread herself across the day

Her hair will mantle out the sun
And craft a loom where cold is spun

The frozen wind her gift to share
She’ll whisper frost into the air

So soft at first this cold, cold, song
That lulls to sleep the still-green ground

Then lullaby to opera turns
An aria so cold it burns

Oh then she'll soar, oh how she'll fly
Her ice-tipped hem will pierce the sky

She lays her blanket 'cross the land
Her fingers leave an icy brand

Encased within her wondrous flight
Our world, surreal, now clad in white

And caught by her serenity
She wraps us in eternity

Thank you so much to the amazingly talented Marcus Ranum (*mjranum) for the stock image which I used to created Lady Winter (although she is almost completely redrawn it would have been impossible without the original image as inspiration!)

Once again Marcus your work and your models are astonishing and lovely!

The Landscape and Sleeping Statue are both from Photo's I took in Scotland.

Animated WIP GIF is almost done so should have it up by Sunday … :D

Yes ... I still have a ton to work to do ...the ones I have uploaded are only from the first 5 days!

The landscape for this was from an amazing place ... I had to take it out of the car as the road was so narrow we could not really stop ... it switched-back up the mountain and this was the view from about 3/4 of the way up!

Her magic feed the brimstone air
The tempest tangled in her hair
And in his dreams she’d always be
A bitter wind called Tragedy

Once again, thank you. This was a really hard piece for me ... I started out really well and then could not get her hair right ... I am still not really satisfied.

Finally realized that it wouldn't matter how many times I did it (in my opinion) it was never going to be right ;)

oh i understand you completely.
in winter times you can actually smell the snow in the air.And that threatening coldness, and some sort of quiet secret locomotion all around.
i love it!
your work has that coldness.i can actually feel it .
great!
